Open Horizons Youth Sailing Program (offered by Jackson Park Yacht Club Foundation)

In order to combat the dramatic increase in youth and gun violence in Chicago, and in particular in its neighborhood, South Shore, and the surrounding neighborhoods in the summer of 2018, the JPYC Foundation is launching the Open Horizons Youth Sailing Program. This program, which will target low-income, minority, at-risk children and youth ages 8-18, will teach leadership, teamwork and conflict resolution skills through sailing. The program will run from June to August and will consist of five sessions of two weeks each. Classes will be held Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Instruction will take place in Jackson Park Outer Harbor in Lake Michigan and will include both classroom and hands-on on-the-water activities. The program will be overseen by our Sailing Program Director Classes and a staff of instructors all of whom will be US Sailing Certified instructors (Level 1 and Reach/STEM certification).

AMP Community Arts (in partnership with Museum Shores Yacht Club) AMP Community Arts Program is a 501(c)(3) not for profit youth arts organization. We have been working to promote our mission since 2005 through: Presenting sponsored or non-sponsored exhibitions of new and established artists conducting community events, often through partnerships, to generate community participation in the arts conducting seminars, workshops and classes for students ages 12-18 to enhance knowledge and encourage creative experimentation featuring artists in the performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts from around the city. Using professional artists and musicians, our approach is to teach our students to express their emotions through creative means. Instead of tagging public property, we teach them to make their mark on canvas. Instead of acting out in school, we encourage them to write their feelings and act them out in the recording studio through song, rap and spoken word

MSYC also strives to establish and to advance, mutually harmonious relationships with local community groups and professional associations and to maintain an atmosphere of good sportsmanship among its members.
