Jackson Park Yacht Club has a strong racing program for sailboats. Those who would like to try racing are invited to learn by crewing for more experienced skippers.
We have a number of races scheduled throughout the year.
Wednesday Night Beer Can Races
JPYC’s beer can racing program begins Wednesday nights beginning on the Wednesday after our Opening Day. Skipper's Meeting begins at 6:00 pm, with the first start at 7:00 pm. The Sea Scouts provide galley services on Wednesday nights for those looking for a meal before the races.
Every year JPYC sponsors Lutz Regatta.
A new regatta being offered for the first time in 2017, the JPYC Regatta features exciting buoy racing along Chicago’s lakefront.
Members of JPYC may participate in these Area III races without paying an entry fee; however, they must have a current handicap certificate and register for the races. The third leg of the Tri-State is on Labor Day. The club also provides race management for these events. Volunteers are needed to serve on the Race Committee. Contact race chairperson for information.
Gratt/Raske Memorial Regatta
Gil Raske loved sailing and the camaraderie of sailors.
Stan Gratt loved sailing and dedicated his life to promoting the sport to the world.
Every August, we remember Gil and Stan and celebrate their enthusiasm and passion for the sport of sailing. Arrive in Michigan City on your own schedule to meet one another and the Gratt and Raske Families for a no-host dinner at the (previous) Michigan City Yacht Club, Saturday evening. Race back from Michigan City to Jackson Park on Sunday.
Air & Water Show Fun Regatta
A new regatta being offered for the first time in 2017, the Air & Water Show Fun Regatta is a fun casual long distance race along Chicago’s lakefront. It is an easy way for those interested in learning to race. Finish the race near Navy Pier in time to watch the Air & Water Show from your boat.
Fall Closer and Long Distance Race
A new regatta being offered for the first time in 2017, the Fall Closer Regatta features a long distance race along Chicago’s lakefront.
